Exactly four weeks ago,
I made a super scary decision – to completely redo my website on my own! The decision came after quite a bit of thought, research and consideration of the time it would take to complete a project like this. If you’re here reading this, then you can see that I did it! I redid my website and must admit that I am super proud. Not only am I proud of my work but also how it all came together in the end. I believe my new website is not only very functional, which was one of my major goals, but also a beautiful representation of my business, A Joyful Life with Jennifer (AJLWJ).
Upon launching my business back in late 2017,
my first website was everything I hoped it would be. I worked with an amazing branding and design expert, and she helped me find a company to build a fully customized Word Press site based on our work together. I was proud of our work, and it served its purpose for several years.
my business has evolved, I have become much clearer on the direction I want AJLWJ to move in, my offerings have grown and my goals have shifted. Additionally, I realized something substantial: not only had AJLWJ “outgrown” it’s website, but I did not have the ability or knowledge to communicate what specifically I wanted to see improved or changed. I spent quite a bit of time pondering exactly what was missing from my site so that I could share with the web designers and developers how I envisioned things evolving. Given the fact that my business primarily offers online services, coupled with the fact that there are a ton of really cool tools and resources out there for businesses like mine, I started to explore my options.
Ultimately, I wanted a website
that was easy for me to update, extremely functional and a current representation of what AJLWJ offers. I wanted a healthy mix of text, photos and videos with fun little surprises mixed in throughout to keep the visitors on my site engaged. I am really proud to share that I have created exactly that. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I could accomplish something this amazing. I have always been a “tech dummy”. There was a very steep learning curve initially but I dedicated hours upon hours every single day for the last month to figure things out. This project started rather rocky with quite a few substantial mistakes along the way but ended extremely well. Additionally, I was able to tap into my creativity in a way that I never tried before.
For those who are interested,
I am using ShowIt (click here for the link) which is considered a drag and drop website builder (it’s a bit more complicated than that in my opinion) that offers premade templates (free and for purchase), the ability to blog and more. I purchased a premade design template (there are tons out there – so many that it can be overwhelming) that I was able to easily upload into my ShowIt account and then customize to my liking. In the end, I ended up customizing quite a bit more than originally anticipated because I really ended up getting into it and seeing all the amazing things that could be done with my site. There is still a ton to learn, and I look forward to continuing to enhance my site in the future. I am certainly no expert but that was never the goal.
You may also notice that this is the first blog post on my site. It was actually an option for ShowIt to migrate the blogs from my old site to this new one but that didn’t happen due to a mistake I made along the way (one of the many!). Ha! Let’s just say that although this process was not seamless, I’m still extremely happy with my decision to tackle it on my own. Soooooo, stay tuned for more blogs on topics focused on wellness, living a joyful life and more!
Now for the part I’ve been waiting for:
Welcome to my new website! I am so excited to share it with you. Have a look around and let me know what you think. Do you have a favorite page within the site? If I had to pick, I would say my favorite is the about page…from sharing some of my favorite things to even a fun quiz so you can get to know me a bit better, I believe it captures who I am very well. Let me know what you think in the comments section. I look forward to hearing from you!
